  1. Today’s Objective: Write the thesis statement of an analytical essay. Bellringer: Answer these questions to the best of your ability (no dictionaries) in your journal. What is a hypothesis (in science)? What is a thesis (in English)? Take out pen(cil), note paper, Anthem. A “writing thesis statements” packet will be handed out shortly after class begins.

  2. Hypothesis: An unproven theory that will be tested through study and experimentation. Thesis: A claim that will be proven through argument, analysis, and/or explanation.

  3. Hypothesis: A hypothesis can fail to be proven and still provide valuable scientific knowledge. Interesting data may come out as a result of experimentation that is not relevant to the proof/disproof of the hypothesis. Thesis: A thesis MUST be proven. Only evidence that contributes to the support of the thesis is of interest.
