WVDE 21st Century Skills Initiative • The ability to communicate in multiple world languages has a direct impact on economical, political and societal progress in the 21st Century world • The ability to think at high levels in multiple world languages contributes to students’ strong academic achievement across content areas • The ability to understand the nuances of ethnic and cultural diversity in multiple world languages plays a critical role in students’ overall global awareness
World Language Strategic Plan • Develop partnerships with higher education to impact teacher quality • Expand critical languages • Recruit native speakers and proficient speakers to the profession • Establish supplemental teaching certificates and endorsements • Provide loan forgiveness • Facilitate local partnerships (college/school) • Maintain improved communication
