Center of Buoyancythis is the area of your body you want to “balance” from www.daytonraiders.com Where is Your Balance Point? Center of Massthis is the area of your body you want to avoid “balancing” from, many inexperienced swimmers default to this area.
Balance Point The “Body Line” is key component of perfect balance on freestyle, as well as the other strokes: • Freestyle – maintain “body line” at all times • Backstroke – same as freestyle, very difficult since you are “upside down” • Breaststroke – re-establish the “body line” after every stroke • Butterfly - re-establish the “body line” after every stroke
Balance Point When swimming freestyle, remember to: • Look down • Lean forward • Swim over your anchor points while leaning • Swim downhill
See-Saw Effect • Feel as though you have equal weight in front of your balance point (chest) as there is behind the balance point (most swimmers feel more weight in the rear) 40 Kg 40 Kg
Tip for Your Next Practice • Establish your head position first, during the pushoff. Don’t breath for a few strokes. Once the head position is set, the other techniques are easier to add to your swimming.
