Structure of a Volcano • A cone is where the smoke, gasses, ashes and lava come out. Different layers make up the cone, layers are lava and ash • A vent is the opening in the volcano • The pipe is where all the magma comes out • A crater is at the top of a volcano and is circle shaped, where ash, lava and other materials are released
Types of Eruptions • Plinian • Pelean • Vulcanian • Strumbolian • Hawiian
Plinian Eruption • Most explosive and powerful of all • An enormous ash cloud comes into the air • Can blow volcanic material very high in the air • Lava flows may start when the eruption ends
Types of Volcanos • Composite Volcanos (also known as StratoVolcanos) • Shield Volcanos • Cinder Cones • Spatter Cones • Complex Volcanos (also known as Compound Volcanos)
Composite Volcanos • Formed by layers of lava, ash and rocks. • Exceed 2500m in height and 100 sq.km in surface • Usually erupt in a big explosive matter because between the eruptions they seem like there dead • There are different shapes of composite volcanos including concave, pyramidal, convex-concave, helmet shaped, etc.
Shield Volcanos • Built by layers of lava • Usually found in Hawaii • The eruptions are usually small-explosivity and some lava flow and can form cinder cones and spatter cones at the top • Can be produced at hot spots
Cinder cone • Most common Volcanos • Built by lava fragments that are called cinders • Rarely exceed 2500m in height and 500m in diameter, but they grow really fast
Complex Volcanos • All volcanos can be complex volcanos because they are all made up of multiple flows, ash, domes, cones and more • A volcano that has two or more vents, or a complex vent is considered a complex volcano
Hot Spots • They are located far away from the edges of tectonic plates and where the crust is thin • They are located within the mantle and oceanic lithosphere, where the rocks melt to create magma • When its in the oceanic lithosphere shield volcanos are built which are in the deep ocean • When a hot spot is beneath a continental plate and they creates lots of lava

Negative Effects of Volcanos • Can kill people and animals • Can produce avalanches, landslides, lahars, Nuees Ardentes, pyroclastic flows and Tsunamis • Gas, lava, ash all come out of the volcano
Positive Effects of Volcanos • They provide resources energy extraction, the heat from the earths crust can be converted to energy • A while after the volcano the ash can be turned into very good soil
Lava, Lava flows, Pyroclastic flows, Pyroclastic Surges, Lahars • Lava is magma that is exposed to air or water • A pyroclastic flow is hot gas and ash quickly going down the slope • A pyroclastic surge are very dangerous, they contain bad gasses that kill people • A Lahar is a mudflow made of water and stuff from volcanos
Mt. Fuji • Is an active Stato Volcano • 3 776m high • Largest volcano in Japan • Located in Japan, 100k away from Tokyo • The last eruption was around 1707-1708
