  1. Water Conflict in the Himalayas… Byxxxxxxxxxxx

  2. The conflict is happening in the Himalayas, but what is the conflict exactly? • The glaciers/icebergs are receding quickly, more then 1000 glaciers have receded by 16%. Faster then any other glaciers in other parts of the world; some say they could disappear altogether by 2035. They are/will wash away the top soil of the land.

  3. Who is affected by this conflict? • Himalayan rivers support nearly half of humanity; anyone who depends on the glaciers for water will be affected. Villages have already been wiped out from currents, but could later flow into other countries flood plains. Underground aquifers in Asia depend on snow melt in the dry summer season, which means water could become limited. Especially fresh water.

  4. This conflicts: • The glaciers conflict world effects and access to clean water.

  5. Solutions… • As a individual, I could donate money so that they could install dikes. This may, as the climate or weather changes, could help prevent flooding into villages. • A larger group could invest in buying dikes. Or even installing them. • Problems that could be encountered are that the dikes may not stop the tide.
