New California Law Requires Training For All School Security Guards A new California law, SB 390, signed into law this month, mandates that all school security guards complete training by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. Previously, only school security guards working more than 20 hours a week were required to undergo training. That’s when all school guards, regardless of the number of hours worked, will have to complete the required security guard training before working at schools K-12, community colleges and charter schools.
Licensed School Guards. Professional security guard training is critical. All Access Control Security guards are already licensed by the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. They go through rigorous background checks and must complete annual continuing education. Our guards can immediately step onto a school campus, survey the scene and go to work. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, during the 2015–16 school year, 79 percent of U.S. public schools reported that one or more incidents of violence, theft, or other crimes had taken place on their campus.
