DESCRIPTION OF THE INITIATIVE • Import of skilledfarmers for traditional & non-traditional products, offeringthembetterworkingconditionsthan in theirownenvironment • Import of labourbecause of shortage of workers on the fields. Suriname is competitiveandattractivecompared to otherlaborimportingregions (MiddleEast, EU…).

STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE • Theinitiativewilladdress one ofthekeychallengesin reachingtowardsthevisionofbecomingthefoodshedof CARICOM – lacklaborandfull time farmers • To increase production and exports • To stabilize prices of the products • To enablecontinuousagricultureproduction – permanentsupply, consistentqualityandstrenghten market positionofSurinameagriculture in CARICOM.
