  3. Step 1: choose your quotes Go through your text and find 1-3 book quotes for each main idea in your commentary

  4. Step 2: write down your quotes Each time you find a good quote that fits one of your ideas – write it down on a note card

  5. Step 3: write down your quotes Don’t forget to write down the page number when you find a quote!

  6. Step 4: put in quote marks and page numbers

  7. Quote marks Put “ ” around the beginning and end of each quote

  8. Quote marks “I couldn’t stand the way my hair curled like crazy after swimming.”

  9. LeavePunctuation for after the page numbers “I couldn’t stand the way my hair curled like crazy after swimming” (204).

  10. Unless there is ! Or ? “I couldn’t stand the way my hair curled like crazy after swimming! ” (204).

  11. Write page number (NOTICE NO # OR PG.) “I couldn’t stand the way my hair curled like crazy after swimming” (102).

  13. Dialogue Quote marks If your quote looks like this in the book: “She’s so smart she makes me feel like a dummy!” June said.
