  2. Project Category • “Small” • Less than $1.25 Million in DP cost • Domestic • Involvement of single facility: NSF/NCAR GV • “NCAR-led” • Lead PI team from NCAR • Majority of scientific work funded through NSF/UCAR Cooperative Agreement to NCAR

Documentation Requirements • Science Proposal • Needed to justify the use of an instrument or platform • Will be send out for peer-review • Proposal has to follow the NSF Grant Proposal Guide • Facility Request • Available online from EOL website • Endorsement Letter • Written by PIs Science Division Director or NCAR Associate Director • Confirms financial and institutional support for proposed research • Suggests a Science Division Director or designee as primarily NCAR Point of Contact for NSF and to answer all questions related to projects (not the PI) • PandA Registration • Register as unfunded collaboration • Scientific Overview of Project • Up to 5 presentation slides in electronic format

Deadlines • PandA Registration 15 Nov 2015 • Deadline Facility Request 1 Dec 2015 • Deadline Science Slides 1 Dec 2015 • Deadline Science Proposal 31 Jan 2016 • OFAP Review May 2016 • NSF Decision Summer 2016 • Field Campaign Aug 2017 Facility request and slides to B. Baeuerle Proposal to V. Grubisic

  5. Review/Approval Process • NCAR-led proposal review conducted by NCAR Management (usually EOL Director) • Requires appointment of a NCAR Point of Contact (Associate Lab or Science Division Director) and NSF PoC for communications between NSF, EOL & NCAR Lab • Science proposal send out for peer review by EOL • NCAR Management will review evaluations and programmatic decision • OFAP review of facility request • NCAR recommendation to NSF • Final decision by NSF • Notification from EOL
