What were they? • Lists of grievances drawn up by each of the three estates- the nobility, the clergy, and third estate. • Addressed issues from personal liberty to taxes.
Why were they used? • The compilation of these ‘wish lists’ was ordered by King Louis XVI as a chance for the three estates to express their grievances and expectations directly to him at the Estates- General meeting.
