Tom Swifts • Tom Swift was a hero of five fictional book series. • The character was created by Edward Stratemeyer, the founder of Stratemeyer Syndicate a book-packaging firm. • He wrote under the pseudonym of Victor Appleton. • ( Pseudonym- A fictitious name or pen name. ) • The books were written from 1910-1941. • The books were American Juvenile science fiction and adventure novels. • Page 16- “ Our first raid came to pass only because Dill bet JemThe Grey Ghost against two Tom Swifts that Jem wouldn’t get any farther than the Radley gate.” • By betting two Tom Swifts against The Grey Ghost Really showed how much books were valued to people of all age groups during that time period. They didn’t have computers , cell phones or televisions so books were their choice of entertainment.
