  2. What is it? Why does it happen? • Acid reflux happens when stomach acids back up into the esophagus • Can cause intense pain since food is not digested and can back up

  3. Symptoms • Adult symptoms are easier more easier to see then children symptoms • Feeling heart burn (intense pains in the chest) • Some symptoms are harder to see because they link to other functions ( ingestion, stomach ulcers) • Nausea and vomiting • Difficulty swallowing

  4. Treatments There are 3 types of treatment methods (lifestyle changes, medication, and surgery) • Changing what you eat and dieting • Altering sleeping positions • Losing weight • Smokers should quit smoking • Medications (antacids, proton pump inhibitors, prokinetics, mosapride citrate, and sucralfate) • Heart burn medications.
