Puffins’ Physical Features • Puffins have white feathers on their chests, and black feathers on their backs. They have red, yellow, and blue bills, and bright orange feet. They are 1 foot tall and weigh up to 1 pound.
Habitat • Puffins live in the northern Atlantic and Pacific. They live in areas where the temperature is freezing cold.
Puffins’ Food • Puffins feed on sand eels, capelin, and sand lance. They also eat fish that are about the same size. Puffins are carnivores because they eat fish.
The Puffins’ Lifespan • Puffins aren’t endangered, although you may think so. Puffins live up to 29 years in their lifetime.
Physiological Adaptations • Puffins have two eyelids, inner and outer. The inner lids help keep water out of their eyes when the birds are swimming.
