How to become an IAS Officer l IAS guidance l UPSC l Civil Services Preparation Everyone’s dream is to be an IAS officer one day and there are millions of aspirants who wish to have a career of this. It is one of the most prominent and prestigious examination among others services. And, hence the examination is also quite tough for the candidates to clear without proper guidance. IAS (Indian administrative services) is an officer who is selected to get the exposure in very diverse roles like head of public sector units. Now the question comes like how to become an IAS officer? Even though the examination is being conducted and undertaken which is called as IAS and is officially called UPSC civil services exam. The UPSC CSE majorly comprised of 3 stages such as prelims, main and interviews. Civil Services Examination This is a government agency who is responsible for the choosing the right candidate for this service. At every year there are only around 1000 candidates who get selected for this position and for all 24 services combined. The numbers of candidates who have applied for the UPSC civil service exam every year are about 10 lakh approximately and among which 5 lakh candidates appear on the exam day. This examination consists of 3 stages as below: •The first stage of the exam – Preliminary (objective) – is usually conducted around June. •The second stage, Mains (written), is conducted around September-October. •Those who clear Mains will have to face an interview/personality test during the March- May period. Eligibility criteria If we talk about the eligibility criteria for the examination, the educational qualification needed to appear in UPSC CSE is a degree (graduation) in any subject. Final year students can also apply. IAS Exam Age Limits The minimum age to appear for UPSC Civil Services Exam is 21 years. Upper age limit for General category is 32 years, for OBC it is 35 years while for SC/ST it is 37 years.

2. Syllabus of IAS 2020 There might be question in your mind how to prepare for IAS officer and what is the syllabus that you need to prepare for the examination. The Civil Services Preliminary exam comprises of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper- II). The questions will be of multiple-choice, objective type. The marks in prelims will not be counted for final ranking, but just for qualification for the main exam. A candidate’s rank in UPSC Civil Service Exam depends only on the mark scored in Main and Interview. The written examination (main) will consist of the following nine papers, but only 7 papers will be counted for final merit ranking. For the rest two papers, the candidate should secure minimum marks prescribed by UPSC each year. The main exam has 1750 marks while interview has 275 marks. How to prepare for IAS Examination?
