  1. Trench Drains 101 Not all gardens, showers, and even driveways are able to absorb water right away. In most cases, these places get flooded especially when there’s a sudden downpour of water and there’s nodrainage system for it. Fortunately, you can install a trench drain that can solve your drainage problems. What are Trench Drains?

  2. A trench drain is a kind of drainage system that is built into concrete. It is able to collect water so that the area past it will not get flooded. Think of it as a kind of gutter. Instead of having an elevated part by the side, you get a drain where water can pass through. A trench drain is made using different materials. It can use plastic, steel, polymer, and even iron as its foundation. However, a trench drain offers different designs when it comes to its railings. The best way to decide on what material and design to use is to know how much water will be passing through the drainage. Why Do You Need a Trench Drains? Given that California enjoys a tropical and rainy climate over certain parts of the year, it’s always beneficial to think again. You don’t want to wait for a flood to happen to realize that there’s no drainage in your driveway or your garden. So while it’s still not raining in your city, get a trench drain installed already. Another reason why you need a trench drain is that it prevents erosion. If your garden doesn’t have the proper water system, excess water can lead to soil erosion which removes the nutrients your plants need for them to grow properly. Trench drains can even serve as a way to divert water to a different location. If a certain part of your home receives more water, you can use a trench drain to direct that water to an area that receives less water. In that way, you conserve water and make sure each part of your garden is properly watered.

  3. How Are Trench Drains Installed? If a certain part of your home badly needs a drainage system, then you might be wondering how you can install one. Usually, a trench drain is installed on the floor. Since concrete is often the flooring in California, then the trench drain will be built into it. You start by creating a trench in the concrete. This means that you have to cut into it and carve a trench (hence the name) so that you can fit the drain perfectly. This can be difficult considering that digging and cutting through concrete is not as easy as it sounds. After you’ve dug a trench, it’s now time to assemble the actual drainage parts. Connect it with your main drainage system and make sure that there are no leaks. Finish it off by putting the metal grating on top of the trench. To ensure that it works properly, have it tested with water after you remove all the dirt and additional cement you dug up. Make sure that when you leave your drain there’s nothing obstructing water from flowing there. Contact Extreme Epoxy Coatings for all your trench drain needs across California!
