  1. May 25, 2011 Meeting How to Start a Successful Program “How to Put A Program On A Path Towards Success By Applying An Integrated Technical Planning Approach” Speakers: Mr. William Jennings, Mr. Shawn Simmons and Mr. Robert Scheurer Location: Boeing Building 305, Level 3, Room 300 Core Brown Bag Lunch / Presentation: 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Abstract: Someone once said that failing to plan is planning to fail. But how much planning is really needed to deliver today’s complex systems in this extremely challenging economic environment? Can some traditional plan content be eliminated while other planning must be retained? Recent GAO investigations have found that many programs experience both cost and schedule overruns due to 1) bypassing steps in the knowledge creation process as programs move across the product life cycle and 2) pursuit of revolutionary advances in capability versus evolutionary, incremental advances. This round table discussion will focus on what’s really needed to create the right knowledge at the right time in the product left cycle. Biography: Messrs. Jennings, Simmons and Scheurer are leaders and practitioners in Systems Engineering (SE) activities across the product life cycle and represent The Boeing Company in multiple Government and Industry forums focusing on improving the practice of SE. They recently collaborated on creating a web-based Integrated Technical Planning course that is available to all Boeing teammates and is the source material for this monthly discussion. Directions: B305 is on McDonnell Blvd between I-270 and Lindbergh. Reservations not required, but please contact Dianne Milton (dianne.g.milton@boeing.com or 314-233-6801) by May 20 to attend, for a snack count and badging for non-Boeing attendees.
