  2. Lake Chatuge • Many students in Clay County do not know some important facts about Lake Chatuge. This unit will help them understand more about our beautiful lake.

  3. Why was the lake built? Who built the lake? When was lake Chatuge built? Why does the government need the lake? Why do we need the lake? Who enjoys the lake? Lake Chatuge

  4. Why was the lake built? • Lake Chatuge was built during World War Two to help the government generate more electricity

  5. Who built the lake? • The lake was built by the Tennessee Valley Authority or the TVA. The TVA was created while Franklin Delano Roosevelt was president.

  6. Why does the government need the lake? • The government uses the lake to generate electricity.

  7. When was Lake Chatuge built? • Construction on Lake Chatuge began in July of 1940 • The gates were closed in February of 1942 and Lake Chatuge began to fill.

  8. Why do we need the Lake? • In Clay County today the lake is a major source of recreation for all ages. The lake draws many tourists to our town.
