  2. Exodus 3:13-14 Exo3:13 But Moses replied, "When I go to the Israelites and say to them, 'The God of your ancestors sent me to you,' they will ask me, 'What is his name?' So what can I tell them?" Exo 3:14God said, "I am who I am. You must tell them: 'The one who is called I AM has sent me to you.'

  3. Jesus claims to be “I AM” • The Jews knew the significance of this name. • They held this name in high esteem. • When Jesus began using this name for himself, they knew that Jesus was in effect claiming to be the one. John 8:58 "I am telling you the truth," Jesus replied. "Before Abraham was born, 'I Am'."

  4. The Power of the Name • So powerful is this name, that when Jesus spoke it, the power of God came upon people. John 18:4 Jesus knew everything that was going to happen to him, so he stepped forward and asked them, "Who is it you are looking for?" John 18:5 "Jesus of Nazareth," they answered. "I am he," he said. Judas, the traitor, was standing there with them. John 18:6 When Jesus said to them, "I am he," they moved back and fell to the ground.

  5. Jesus used the name 7 times in the gospel of John • I am the BREAD OF LIFE. (John 6:35) • I am the LIGHT OF THE WORLD. (John 8:12) • I am the DOOR/GATE. (John 10:7) • I am the GOOD SHEPHERD. (John 10:11) • I am the RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE. (John 11:25) • I am the WAY, THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE. (John 14:6) • I am the TRUE VINE. (John 15:1)
