Project Aims • The control of a number of electronics in the home via an internet tablet. • The internet tablet will act as a remote control for every electronic device within in the house using either a Wifi or Bluetooth connection. • The project aims to control devices such as home security, which can be accessed from outside the home using the wifi connection. • Other devices such as the television or radio controls can be controlled and even as far as the controlling the lights of different rooms in the house.
Project Aims • Applications of project • Endless amount of applications for this project • One single handheld device central control for every electronic device in your home • Luxury • Not Necessary • However, there are many situations where the applications of home automation prove highly useful. • Elderly Disabled Sick
Components/Software • Internet tablet Nokia 770 • Nokia 770 is a handheld wireless internet browser • A TI OMAP 1710 processor and 128Mb of flash memory • Wi Fi Connection • Bluetooth • USB Connection • Central Control Device for the home automation project.
Components/Software • Linux MCE version 710 • Linux MCE ( Media Centre Edition) • enables a PC as the centre of the media • Controls all media within the home from PC. • Television, DVD, Stereo, Radio • Media follows user around home when carrying a bluetooth device
Components/Software • Linux MCE Orbiter • The Linux MCE Orbiter is an application that allows the Nokia 770 to control the various devices within the home
Milestones/Goals • Research, Literature and Components used • Control of external devices by LinuxMCE based controller • Sending/Receiving data via Bluetooth and wi fi • Integration of tablet and LinuxMCE components into fully working systems • Sending alert to device when event occurs (e.g sensor) • Research into modulating audio devices when an event occurs
