Piet Mondrian (1872-1944) • Most recognizable De Stijl Painter • Used asymmetric black lines to divide the space and create shapes to fill in with primary colors
Geometric Lines • Vertical lines are straight up and down • Horizontal lines are straight across from one side to the other • Geometric shapes are formed when these lines cross
Primary Colors • The Primary colors are Red, Blue, and Yellow • All other colors can be made by mixing these colors
Project assignment • Students will demonstrate a working knowledge of using geometric lines, shapes and primary colors to create a De Stijl style painting.
