Some examples: • I have a new car or I’ve got a new car • Sue has got long hair or Sue has long hair • Do they have any children? NOT: Have they any children? • Tim doesn’t have a job or Tim hasn’t got a job NOT: Tim hasn’t a job - IT’S WRONG!!! • How much time have you got? Or How much time do you have? • My parents have a holiday flat on the French Riviera or My parents have got a holiday flat on the French Riviera
Have/have got to say that you’re not healthy (=you have an illness) I have a headacheI ’ve got a headache + I don’t have a coldI haven’t got a cold - Do you have (the) flu? Have you got (the) flu? ?
Have for actions(=performing an action) I usually have breakfast NOT: I usually have got breakfast + I don’t usually have breakfastNOT: I usually haven’t got breakfast - Do you usually have breakfast? NOT: Do you usually have got breakfast? ?
