Learn how to tackle TOEFL Reading vocabulary questions with multiple-choice options, understanding context clues, and identifying meanings.

Slide 1- Click and tell sts that the Reading section of the TOEFL test includes multiple-choice vocabulary Questions that test your understanding of certain words in the reading passages. They will be given a word highlighted in the passage and four different words from which to choose the onethat is closest in meaning to the highlighted word. Slide 2- Before clicking, tell sts that the context of the sentence may or may not give a clue to the meaning of a word. Click and show the first sentence. Tell sts that, in this case, unless we know how Timothy feels about Aunt Lauren, we cannot get the meaning of scowled. Click again that, in this sentence, we can guess that Timothy was upset when he Got a flat tyre. Click a third time and tell sts that although we can´t know the exact meaning of scowl from the context, we can guess that it is a way of showing displeasure.
