    1. STD*MIS and STD Surveillance

    2. STD*MIS in Texas Current version of STD*MIS is 4.0e 19 STD Surveillance sites Beaumont site was closed in April 2007 Local sites upload data weekly to Central Office (due COB Friday) Central office reports weekly (due Tuesday) to CDC Local sites send monthly backup of database to central office (due the 15th of the month).

    3. STD*MIS in Texas 4 sites currently importing electronic lab reports into STD*MIS: Amarillo began importing 10/19/06 Region 4/5N began importing 11/8/06 Austin/Travis Co began importing 2/1/07 Dallas County began importing 3/5/07 Additional sites will be added over the coming months.

    4. STD*MIS in Texas Along with lab import, we are standardizing some reference files: New test types reference lists (CT, GC, Syphilis, HIV) Alan is creating a universal geo_area.dbf reference file Data harmonization - Karen is working on identifying and updating all patient records in the Central database where the last name, first name or DOB does not match what is in the local database.

    5. Known Issues with STD*MIS Changes to the patient record from one known value to another known value do NOT upload to Central office. Updates in the patient record do NOT cascade to the morbidity record in Central office Windows XP: STD*MIS will not print field records and interview records to a network printer unless the user has Admin rights to their machine Windows Vista: STD*MIS is currently NOT compatible with Windows Vista.

    6. Data QA in STD*MIS Each site is expected to run the following QA reports on a monthly basis and correct any problems found: Duplicate patient report Exact Match Fuzzy Match Duplicate Morbidity (CT, GC and Syphilis) Positive Labs without Morbidity (CT and GC) Interview Record List and Morbidity List (710-730): compare and reconcile Missing Values List Infected FR’s not linked to Morbidity Performance Measures Report Lab/Provider Report Time Frames

    7. Data QA in STD*MIS Central office has routine QA reports we run; many are the same as the ones each site is responsible for running. Much of our QA is performed through ad hoc analysis, using statewide data exported from Central STD*MIS: Cross-jurisdictional de-duplication of Syphilis, CT and GC morbidity Logic errors Missing values 700 cases must meet surveillance case criteria

    8. New Performance Measures For 2007, CDC has added additional measures that must be reported by the state: Proportion of reported cases of P&S syphilis and EL syphilis sent to CDC via NETSS where sex of sex partners is known. Among clients of STD clinics, the proportion of women with positive CT tests that are treated within 14 and 30 days of the date of specimen collection. Among clients of STD clinics, the proportion of women with positive GC tests that are treated within 14 and 30 days of the date of specimen collection.

    9. What’s next for Texas STD Surveillance? CDC in Atlanta will be releasing a new version of STD*MIS, version 4.1, sometime this fall. Investigation-based, not event-based CDC NCPHI announced March 15, 2007 that it will no longer support development and deployment of the NEDSS Program Area Module (PAM) Platform.

    10. What’s next for Texas STD Surveillance? DSHS STD is exploring other options for a centralized, statewide STD surveillance and case management application to replace STD*MIS. PRISM, developed by the Florida STD Program PA NEDSS, developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health
