Introduction • Blackboard is a uniformed, web-based system that allows students to their classes from anywhere in the world they can access the internet. All you need is a login ID and password (set by the school) and you are good to go.
Logging into Blackboard • To start using blackboard please go to http://www.uaa.alaska.edu/classes
Logging into Blackboard (cont.) • The login information is the same as your UAA Email. • Please see that attachment for login information.
Using Blackboard • When you log into Blackboard you will be greeted with the basic welcome screen. From this window you should see the class and have access to the basic “Tools” menu to the left. Click on the Name of the of the class if you want to view information.
Using Blackboard (cont.) • Click on “Courses” tab on your Welcome screen. • Your course number is PM A494A (Masters students will also have additional work in PM A694G). This will get you to the following screen:
Blackboard Communication • On the left side in the course menu locate “Communications” tool and click on it.
Bb Communication (cont.) • Select “Send Email” function, then click on “Select Users” to define recipients from your class. • Choose names in class to whom you wish to send email (this should populate the list on the right). • Type your message and click submit when done. Your email will be sent to users you have selected from your group !
Blackboard Interface. • The basics of Blackboard are quite simple. Almost all of the navigation is in the left hand column. • Announcements: Mass messages the instructor posts. • Course Information: Information such as the syllabus. • Staff Information: Information about the instructor & contact information. • Course Documents: Posted lecture notes, handouts, etc. • Assignments: Information about class assignments are posted here. • Communication: Group forums, emailing users, chat rooms, etc are posted here. • Discussion Board: Forums to upload assignments and talk about class. • External Links: Additional links for finding information outside of blackboard. • Tools: A misc. selection of utilities from checking grades to listening to podcasts. • Class Videos: This is where class videos will be posted to view about 1hr after class. • Etc: More menu items may be added or removed at different times over the semester with this own uses. They often have their own importance but can be dealt with in this own time.
Menu Items in Progress • Some of the navigation functions of the menu may not be available right away . It will become populated later as program progresses. • New interface updates will include “Viewing Class Videos”, “Submitting Homework” and “Viewing Your Grade”. You will need access to these functions later. The instructions for these tools are available on next several slides.
Viewing Class Videos. • To view class videos select the “Class Videos” button on the left menu as highlighted by the red circle. • On the right hand tile any class videos currently available will be displayed. • Clicking on any of them will run the video.
Submitting Homework • Homework submission will be done through the “Homework Submission” button. • Click on “Homework Submission” (just like you did earlier with class videos) then click Student Upload to bb6.
Submitting Homework (cont.) • Once in the forums, up top there is an add Tread Icon looks like this • Clicking this will bring you to a page that looks and runs just like writing an email.
Submitting Homework(cont.) • Name your post with your name and the assignment. Attach your assignment just like you would to an email. • Click “Attach a file” • Click “Browse” • Find the file, select it and click the button. • Add text to the Message field as a brief introduction. • Click the button on the far right side. • Done! Your assignment is submitted.
Checking Your Grade. • Checking your grade on Blackboard is very easy. • Click the button on the left to view all the grades that the instructor has entered into the system.
