Biology 3 Field Trip Fall 2007 Dr. Mary ColavitoDestination: Santa Monica Mountains at Topanga State Park Arrange your own transportation to the field trip site; carpools are encouraged. Wear warm clothing and comfortable shoes for walking on the park trail. Bring a pen or pencil for completing a field trip worksheet. Turn in your Field Trip Release and Waiver (p. 171 of lab manual) prior to the trip. No unenrolled students are allowed to attend. No pets are allowed in the park. Feel free to bring your lunch to enjoy in the picnic area next to the parking lot but be sure to arrive early enough to eat before we set out on the trail at 12:30 pm. In case of RAIN or FIRE HAZARD, we will meet in the lab at the time indicated above. Messages will be posted in two locations by 11 am on the day of the trip to confirm our meeting place. N Old Topanga Rd Topanga Canyon Blvd. Entrada Road Topanga State Park (Trippet Ranch) 1 mile Topanga Canyon Blvd. 4.2 miles Sunset Blvd. SMC 5.2 miles Santa Monica Freeway Pacific Coast Highway Chart House 1 mile • Take Santa Monica Freeway, 10 West, for 1 mile to Highway 1, Pacific Coast Highway. • Bear right, take Highway 1 (PCH) North for 5.2 miles to Topanga Canyon Blvd., Route 27. • Turn right, take Topanga Canyon Blvd. for 4.3 miles to Entrada Road. (Look for a “State Park 200 feet” sign that precedes the turn onto Entrada Road.) • Turn right onto Entrada Road. Follow Entrada for about 1 mile, veering to the left at each fork. The park is at the end of Entrada Road. • Park free on Entrada Road just outside the park or turn left into the park and pay $5 to park in the lot.
