Word Study 2-8 • Make a two-column chart in your RRJ that looks like this: • Read each character trait on the board. Decide if this trait is positive or negative. • Write the trait under the correct column- positive or negative. *Some traits may go in both columns • Be ready to explain why the traits are positive, negative, or both!
Independent Reading 2-8 • Read pages 332-337 of Me and Uncle Romiesilently. • After you have read, fill out the “Character Traits” handout on a character of your choice: Josh, Nanette, or Uncle Romie. • Remember to give evidence from the story! • Read your own book silently at your seat. You may close your cow book but keep your “Character Traits” sheet out for me to check!
Word Study 2-9 Look at the following word: squeaky What is the base word in squeaky? squeak! Adding the ‘y’ at the end changes squeak, a verb, to squeaky, an adjective
When you see a word with a suffix, cover up the suffix and look at the base word first. Then, look at the suffix. Put the parts together to figure out what the word means! Try these: Yellowish Healthy Falsehood payment
Independent Reading 2-9 • Read pages My Uncle Romie, pages 338-343, silently. • After you have read, think about whether or not a character from the story changed and why. • Fill out the “Changes a Character Undergoes” sheet using the character you think has changed the most. • Read your own book silently when you finish.
Word Study 9-10 • Read the story on page 323 of your cow book. • As your read, write down any words that you see that have one of the suffixes we have studied in your word study notebook. • After you have found the words, choose two words. Use each word in a sentence. • Read silently when you have finished. Leave your cow book and writer’s notebook open.
