Describe the Characteristics of an Experiment By: Ariel C., Jaylen, JaNai, Arthur, David, and Mars
Definitions • Experiment: is a controlled study conducted to determine the effect varying one or more explanatory variable or f actors has on a response variable. Any combination of the values of the factors is called a treatment. • In an experiment, the experimental unit is a person.
A control group is used to compare two different treatments. • A Placebo is a medicine that taste, looks, and smells real, but it is fake. This is used to give off the effect of a real medicine.
Blinding • Blinding refers to nondisclosure of the treatment and experimental unit is receiving. • The two types of blinding are: Single Blinding and Double Blinding.
Single Blinding experiment is when they don’t know the treatment that they are recienving. • Double Blinding experiment is one in which neither of the experimental unit nor the reseacher in contact with the experimental unit knows which treatment the experimental unit is receiving.
Example • A Researcher education might want to determine if students are doing their homework on an online system do better on an exam then those who do their homework from the text.
