AXM PROD’93 S.R.L is the Pilot Center in the “Implementation of the Harmonized Legislation on Occupational Safety and Health in the small and medium-sized enterprises”, which is a twinning project between the Labour Inspectorate with the Agency of Economical Development and European Integration from Austria. By applying the measures from the “Action plan”, The Pilot Center S.C. AXM PROD’93 S.R.L. will become a model of good practices in implementation of the minimal requirements for occupational safety and health , specified by the Romanian legislation harmonized with European directives, and will demonstrate to the other employs from the same activity that management of professional hazard, security assurance and the workers’ health protection lead to the improvement of the business. 5. The European experts and the specialists from the Labour Inspection and the Territorial Inspectorate of Labour Vâlcea together with the S.C. AXM PROD’93 SRL attorneys have evaluated the hazards for each workplace. Were analyzed the working process ( for each employed), working procedures ( how the employees are fulfilling their tasks), have been identified their risks, causes and effects ( which can lead to accident or professional diseases). Has been concluded that the manual handling consists of a 3 degree risks for the employees, especially for dorsal-lumbar affections. To eliminate or reduce these risks some measures for reduction to minimum the activities of manual handling have been imposed, new working equipments have been bought and new ergonomic solutions have been found. For the uncovered risks, concrete measures have been applied: - the elaboration of own instructions regarding the correct manual handling; - the informing and training of the employees regarding the correct manual handling, for their protection; - the employees’ acquaintances verification; - creation of programs for alternating the working places to eliminate the monotone and repetitive activities; - preparing programs for work organization to reduce the duration and/or the intensity of exposure of the employees to risks; - creating programs to prevent other hazard elements (like stress); - periodic evaluation of the employees’ health. The society’s managershipalong with the person with SSM attributions carried out a policy of awareness of the employees regarding the manual handling, to prevent the affection in the lumbar zones by analyzing the hazards, searching for solutions and applying the specific prevention measures, in accordance with the campaign implemented by the European Commission within the European Week of Labour Security and Health from October 2007. The worker assigned with SSM attributions in the company elaborated own instructions regarding the correct manual handling. Monthly, at the periodical instructions at the workplace, practical demonstrations are done regarding the activity carried by the workman and also practical exercises regarding good practices in manual handling. 8. The workers are receiving informative materials: instructions, posters, folders, slides with images presenting good practices in manual handling. The company’s parking zone has been endowed with new auto-vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with specific devices against vibrations. The drivers were trained and they know the manner how the chair is adjusted regarding the weight of the person, the length of the legs, the height of the person’s bust and the necessary access to the other controls. Have been improved the working medium by endowing the offices with specific furniture according to H.G. 1028/2006. New chairs have been bought for the assembling product line from the Varnishes zone, to eliminate the vicious positions ( kneeling or long time squat ). To determine the psycho- social hazards and the elimination of stress several questionnaires were given to the employees. S.C. Models of good practices introduced : - creation of programs for alternating the working places to eliminate the monotone and repetitive activities; - periodical training of the workers regarding the manual handling ; - the level of information is verified periodically by private discussions between the employ and the employees; - the company elaborated its own instructions regarding the manual handling; - periodical group and individual meetings were organized between the employees; - the existence of written procedures regarding the SSM activities; - practical exercises for emergency situations were realized – like fire situation- and co-operation with the fire department; - keeping the order and cleanliness at the working place. STRUCTURE AND MANAGEMENT The employ’s involvement and dedication (regarding the SSM) represents a premise; It is absolutely necessary a continuous communication between the employ and the employees’ spokesman; Continously instruction and information regarding the SSM; Creating order and internal laws to mentain the necessary level of order and cleanliness at the workplace; The alternation of the workplaces to lighten the working conditions burdened by the using of EIP or in the cases where a high degree of effort is necessary (for repetitive and routine activities). If it is necessary, these courses may be backed by qualified persons (doctors of labour medicine, labour inspectors ). Bookkeeping of the medical vacations and the personal fluctuations in order to apply the necessary measures. Organizing practical exercises for emergency situations like fire, S.O.S. cases, ergonomics (manual handling, working position ). Establishing relationships with similar companies from the same economical branch. Asking for advices from the involved authorities (labour inspectors, fire department). S.C.
