Taxes Everywhere After the French and Indian War, Great Britain was in great debt after having to give large amounts of money to the war. They gained money by taxing the colonists • Sugar Act- placed a tax on sugar and molasses • Stamp Act-put a tax on newspaper, legal documents, and licenses • Townshend Acts-placed a tax on tea, paper, glass, and coloring for paint
Colonists Protest The colonists had had enough of the British taxing them and they decided to fight back. They stopped buying any items with an extra tax “No Taxation Without Representation” was the motto and is now piece of history. Some famous protest from the colonists include: • The Boston Tea Party • The Boston Massacre

Intolerable Acts After hearing about the protests in Boston, Massachusetts, the British government was enraged. They punished the colonist by creating the Intolerable Acts. • Port of Boston was shut down until tea was paid for • Could not hold meetings without governor’s permission • Officers charged with crime can only be charged in Britain • Citizens must house and feed British soldiers
Conclusion All of these events led to the Revolutionary War. These events are very important to our country’s history. If these thing didn’t happen we would probably still be under British rule. Our people stood up and earned their independence and led us to where we are today. The United States of America, a strong, powerful, independent country.
