Remote Controlled Security Camera Rochester Institute of Technology Computer Engineering Senior Design Project Spring 2008 Aric Schorr & Nate Horner Environment & Constraints Project Description Data Flow & Connection Diagram The remote controlled security camera is an integrated webcam and network microcontroller that allows a user to access the camera’s image and control the camera’s position through a secure connection. Two high torque servo motors control the camera’s azimuth and elevation positions through a pan/tilt system controlled by the micro. The camera system requires access to a wall socket for power and an Ethernet cable for communication. The system requires two internet connections: one for the streaming video from the camera and one for communication with the microcontroller. The system could either be mounted on a wall or placed on any flat surface. The camera should view a well-lit area to allow for quality video. RCSC & Components The Team Aric Schorr is a 4th year BS/MS student that hopes to pursue his masters in hardware design and cryptography. He has worked for Harris, maintaining an automated test environment, and Vuzix, writing embedded C for a device that helps people with macular degeneration. Outside of school, Aric is a member of Naval ROTC and will commission as a Naval Officer in May 2009. Nathaniel Horner is a 4th year BS/MS Computer Engineering student at RIT. His interests are embedded programming, control, and digital signals processing. He has worked for Lockheed Martin in developing testing equipment and hopes to peruse a career in embedded programming. Outside of school, he tries to do as little as possible. ServoCity Pan & Tilt Linksys Wireless-G Webcam The User Interface Project Costs How the video works The Linksys web camera hosts the streaming video in a downloadable ASF file. The user interface uses the Windows Media Format 11 SDK to download and display the video contents automatically. HITEC Servo ARM Network Microcontroller
