  1. Probe of pairing symmetries by the resonant mode of an on-chip superconducting cavity Irinel Chiorescu, Florida State University, DMR 0645408 We report the first demonstration of the field-dependent nonlinear Meissner effect (NLME), as observed in a planar superconducting cavity by detection of its resonant frequency dependence of an in-plane magnetic field. The use of low power probing (only ~104 photons) in films thinner than the London penetration depth minimizes vortex penetration and allows NLME manifestation. The coupling between the cavity mode and the Meissner screening currents is modeled classically to describe the findings. Our method probes the macroscopic phase coherence of a condensate and can explore the pairing symmetry in superconductors. 2. Probe of pairing symmetries by the resonant mode of an on-chip superconducting cavity Irinel Chiorescu, Florida State University, DMR 0645408 The grant allowed graduate student training. A partial funding for a postdoc, currently holding a permanent research position, was possible as well. Our group participated, as in all previous years, to the MagLab Open House and coordinated several demos related to electro-magnetism. This event attracts several thousands of visitors every year. This summer, the group hosted 1 “Research Experience for Undergraduates” student and 1 teacher from the “Research Experience for Teachers” program hosted at NHMFL.
