  3. In Science, force, usually means either a push or pull. Think of a game of ten Pin bowling The moving object- the ball exerts a pushing force against anything it hits-the ten pins! What is force?

  4. Where are the forces? • Can you see forces? • Can you see objects affected by forces? • Forces can make things go faster or slower.

  5. What can forces do?

  6. How do we measure force? • We measure force in newtons • We use an instrument called a spring balance known as force meter or newton meter.

  7. Gravitational force • What happens when a ball is thrown upwards? • What happens when you jump up? • What happens to ripe fruits that grow on trees?

  8. Air resistance • Air resistance pushes against a moving car and slows it down. • With a parachute, it is an advantage.

  9. Balanced forces • Table is pushed upwards by the floor while table is pushed down by gravity.
