Learning Outcomes At the end of this video the students will be able to • Understand what is meant an Embedded System • Classify different types of Embedded Systems
Embedded Systems • A system which is having combination of hardware and software and which is used to performparticular task is called an embedded system. • e.g. Calculator, Set-top box etc.
Types of Embedded Systems • Based on functionality and performance requirements • Standalone embedded systems • Real time embedded systems • Networked Information Appliances • Mobile devices
Standalone Embedded Systems • These systems take input, process it and give desired output • e.g. Consumer electronic items
Real Time Embedded Systems • The system in which a particular task must be completed within stipulated period of time is called real time embedded system • e.g. Live telecast system, Missile destroying system
Networked Information Appliances • The systems that are provided with network interfaces and accessed by networks such as LAN or internet are called Networked Information Appliances • e.g. Intelligent routers, Networked Xerox machine
Mobile Devices • The portable devices which are used to perform a particular task, come under this category • e.g. Bus ticket vending machine
Reflection Question • Can you list atleast one example of embedded system, which comes under more than one categories of embedded systems ? • You can pause this video and think for a minute. • e.g. Microwave oven • Standalone and Real Time Embedded System
