My heart is like a singing bird A Whose nest is in a water'd shoot; B My heart is like an apple-tree C Whose boughs are bent with thickset fruit; B My heart is like a rainbow shell D That paddles in a halcyon sea;E My heart is gladder than all these C Because my love is come to me.E Raise me a dais of silk and down; F Hang it with vair and purple dyes; G Carve it in doves and pomegranates H And peacocks with a hundred eyes; G Work it in gold and silver grapes,I In leaves and silver fleurs-de-lys; G Because the birthday of my life J Is come, my love is come to me.E The singing bird and the boughs of tree with fruit explains that her heart is joyful and she is ever happier because the love of her life is coming to see her. A birthday She is saying that she wants to be put on a platform with purple which means royalty,& peacock feathers all around her because they have “eyes” She all of this and it’s her birthday and her love is visiting. "A Birthday" attempts to express her delight at the coming of her love this most likely compares her heart to various things in nature, including a songbird, a apple-tree, and a rainbow shell . She exclaims that the birthday of her life and love is come to her. To express her emotions of happiness and new life after finding her true love on for birthday. A Birthday’ is an upbeat, jubilant poem about love.
