three a week for 10 weeks or so LECTURES guided reading once a week – 10-11 Weds CLASSES workshop follows 9 o’clock lecture ten exercise sheets, two questions each COURSEWORK 20% hand in to School office (Friday noon) 2 short questions a: 5 short questions EXAMINATION MID-TERM TEST 70% 10% core material b: 2 longer questions Waves, Light & Quanta • all material covered by textbooks • www.phys.soton.ac.uk/quantum/phys1011.php http://static.auctionservices.com/images/924001/Lalique_owl_large.jpg
Hecht Optics good: right level and comprehensive Pedrotti & Pedrotti Introduction to Optics pretty good, but somewhat terse Smith, King & Wilkins Optics and Photonics pretty good, but slightly too advanced Feynman Lectures in Physics excellent – put on your Christmas list! You should expect to refer to: • lectures, University Physics, course material and your own lecture notes Books and resources • textbooks - some suggestions: • exercises and classes, lecturer, demonstrators and tutors • for handouts, links and other material, see http://www.phys.soton.ac.uk/quantum/phys1011.php http://www.renelalique.com/images/misc/Rene-Lalique-0304.jpg
