VME crates in ALICE • Most detectors (15) need VME crates: • Total ~60 crates; 10 for CR, 50 for UX • Most still to be purchased, some already exist • Purchase • Preferably via CERN service (PH/ESS), CERN contract with Wiener • Preferential price, on-site support, maintenance, standards • Order procedure and form on ESS web site: • http://ess.web.cern.ch/ESS/crateProject/index.htm • Orders collected and issued at fixed times (2 -3 times/year) • Deadline: 28.10.05 delivery: February 06 • Deadline: 23.12.05 delivery: tbc L.Jirden TB 13.10.05

VME crates in ALICE • ALICE standards • For UX • Type: 6U or 9U with local, water-cooled PS, no fan-tray • Remote control connection: directly on PS • Water connection: to be defined • For CR • Type: 6U or 9U local, air-cooled PS, with fan-tray • Remote control connection: via fan-tray • Back-plane • If VME standard: VME64X • If custom: mechanical standards to be respected L.Jirden TB 13.10.05
