Purpose for Planning Ensures that Common Core Standards are being addressed throughout the scope of the year. Gives direction and purpose to your daily instruction through your understanding of expected learning outcomes.
Elements of Effective Planning • Activities directly correlate to the Common Core Standards • NJASK 3,4 and 5 measures the standards • Objectives are to be stated in terms of anticipated student outcomes • Objectives are to be measurable • Differentiated instruction • Emphasis on small group instruction versus whole group instruction • Should indicate that grade levels are communicating.

Language Arts MandatesKindergarten, First & Second Grades Domain 1a,1e, 1f Word Walls starting at the beginning of the year Writer’s Notebook beginning in September/October Guided Reading Groups by the end of September (low groups seen daily) Centers 4-5 times/week (min. 3 centers)
Language Arts Mandates3rd – 5th Grade Domain 1a,1e, 1f Word Walls starting at the beginning of the year (cross content and ever changing!!!) Writer’s Notebook starting in September Writer’s Workshop (mini-lessons, conferencing etc.) happening daily beginning in October Guided Reading and centers 3-5 times per week (low groups seen daily)
