  1. OREGON HEALTH NETWORK Network Operations Center NMS Demonstration November 19, 2009

  2. The OHN Network Operations Center (NOC) monitors the network to ensure that each telecommunications vendor meets the contractually committed quality of service on its portion of the network. • OHN participants may contact the NOC for help whenever they have technical network problems. NOC staff will work with the telecom vendors to identify and resolve any problems. Who is “OHN NOC”?

  3. OHN Challenges • Health care requires high-availability • Health care applications require Quality of Service (QoS) • Telehealth typically comprised of “Internet” connections • QoS on Internet • Budget precludes a “dedicated purpose built” network • Multiple Service Provider interactions • Finger-pointing • Ownership • Incident resolution • OHN sustainability requires a cost-effective solution

  4. OHN NOC • Provisions and maintains “leaf-node” network • Monitors network and reports performance • Based on Cisco IPSLA • Service Desk available 7x24x365 • Engineering resources available for complex issues • Manages incident identification and resolution • Neutral party • Provides Continuous Service Improvement

  5. OHN NOC ARCHITECTURE • Utilizes Exchange sites as neutral points to aid in incident isolation and resolution • Continual collection of real-time QoS data via leaf-nodes at the clients and responders at NWAX and other exchanges • Leaf-nodes are inexpensive but proven technology, includes on-site spare for fast incident response

  6. OHN NOC Network Monitoring System (NMS)https://nms.easystreet.com/Orion/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fDefault.aspx Network Operations Center; Activity monitored in real-time
