2011-2012District Highlights “Star” Grant Patrol funds facilitate non-budget educational activities The Grapevine-Colleyville Education Foundation “Star” Grant Patrol awarded funds for 23 Grapevine-Colleyville ISD projects totaling $72,126 on Friday, December 9th. In an atmosphere of excitement with drummers, balloons and oversized checks, teachers were surprised in their classrooms and proclaimed winners.
2011-2012District Highlights Holiday Greeting Card contest winners recognized The winners of the Card 2011 GCISD Student Holiday Greeting Card contestwere recognized at the Dec. 12 Board of Trustees meeting. Students from across the district submitted designs to be judged for originality, adherence to the theme “Toyland,” use of color, and overall design. This year’s winners are: Elementary – Gabby Debrei, 3rd grade, Colleyville Elementary Middle – Nora Napper, 6th grade, Heritage Middle High – Ryan DuGray, senior, Grapevine High
2011-2012District Highlights Cross Timbers Middle School band selected to perform in Chicago Members of the CTMS Honors Band traveled to Chicago to perform at the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic in mid-December. Only three middle schools nationwide are chosen to participate in the clinic each year. Of the 89 GCISD students participating, 76 of them are from CTMS. The band is under the direction of Asa Burk with assistance from Mary McCracken.
2011-2012District Highlights CTMS teacher recognized by Language Arts organization Heather Cato, 8th grade teacher at Cross Timbers Middle School, has been named Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Texas Council of English Language Arts. Cato teaches American Discoveries and English, and serves as the Academic UIL coordinator and area coordinator.
2011-2012District Highlights Purchasing Services earns award Employees in the GCISD Purchasing Services department have earned high praise from the Texas Association of School Business Officials for the third year in a row. The department will be awarded the Award of Merit for Purchasing and Operations at the annual TASBO conference. The award is given to school districts that are “committed to following professional standards in the acquisition of good and services.”
2011-2012District Highlights Calendar Option B approved by the Board School will beginonMonday, Aug. 27,2012 on the 2012-2013 student/teachercalendar that was approved by the GCISD Board of Trustees at the Dec. 12 meeting. Option B is supported by the District Excellence Committee and the majority of the community. State law requires that public schools begin classes no earlier than the fourth Monday in August, and local waivers for an earlier school start date are no longer an option.
