Diagnosis assisted by Tympanometry Pure tone audiogram (PTA)
Problem: Hearing loss, affect learning/ development Require treatment when persistent Treatment: Myringotomy and grommet insertion (M+G)
In adults, unilateral glue ear: Must Rule Out Nasopharyngeal Cancer
Acute otitis media • Very common: 60% by 1 year of age • 80% by 3 year of age • 90% by 5 year of age • Otalgia +/- fever • Hyperemic tympanic membrane • Usu follow or associate with URI • Treated by antibiotics/ analgesics • Seldom require myringotomy
