  4. Flip Teaching Using native teacher produced video to shift any form of instruction from the classroom, to the homework setting.

  5. Flip Defined • Flipping the instruction (Reverse Instruction). Direct instruction (lecture) becomes homework. Practice and application is now done in class. • Off-load direct instruction to free up class time. • Leveraging technology to appropriately pair the learning task with the learning environment. • Different flip models.

  10. Why I Flipped My Classroom • IS 3-4 curriculum at Tam. Lecture Intensive. • The cheating. • Make homework more meaningful. • Make class more meaningful. • Desire for more inquiry based activities and labs and mastery. • Flip instruction supports mastery, Standards based grading and gaming models. • After 24 years of teaching I needed to shake things up.

Benefits of the flip • Reduced cognitive load (Making information appear less complex without sacrificing content). • Reduces both intrinsic (information) and extrinsic (environment) load. • Frees up the teacher for more one on one. • Differentiated Instruction. • Ongoing access to content. • Can watch, pause, rewind, watch again. • Support Implementation of mastery in the classroom.

  23. The Data Student Statistics project: Collected assessment data for three years. Concluded assessment scores increased over time. The longer students were exposed to the flip model the more comfortable they became and learning increased.
