Relative Clauses THEORY Relative pronouns: who(informal),whom(formal),that,which,whose, whose Relative adverb: when,why,where • Defining relatives clauses • Relative clause goes in the middle or at the end of the main sentence • Not separated by comas • Uses of that more frequent than who, whom, which • Omission of relative pronoun that and the relative adverb when it’s not necessary to be used. • Non-defining relatives clauses • Relative clause goes in the middle or end of the main sentence • Uses of comas before pronoun (obligatory) • The relative clause cannot start with that (which,who..) • Not omission of relative pronouns • Can be started with some expressions(many of whom, all of whom..)

  2. Exercice Some sentences have a mistake in the relative clauses . Find them and correct them if it’s necessary. • This is the place that I go on Sundays to have a drink. • The boy, that her sister left, is comig to Barcelona by plane. • People that go away for Christmas return more fat than before. • The father,whom’s car is here , has to be very rich. • I love the person that wrote this song. • Where is the pencil that I borrowed you last day? • The dog ,that house is in front of my, is in my garden. • Where you were in the hospital I had to go to school on foot. • The gadget who I consider better for running are my scooters.
