1. Bronze Arts Award 2012 • Sketchbook Research on Hero/Heroine To be completed in A4 Sketchbook • This can be on any Artist or theme you choose.If you want to continue working on an Artist you have studied in lessons that is fine. Your work needs to include the following; • Page 1 Title page • Page 2/3 Biography • A further 8-10 Pages of drawing /painting or work in different media from images of your chosen Artist’s work Remember you should always have Title, Dates and information on media the Artist used for any work that you Study (copy). • Pages should include 1/2/3 images with practical work on a page with ‘annotation’ • LAST PAGE – should be a piece of work designed by you that is in the style of the Artist……..but not a copy!!!!! • Suggested Artists or a theme for study might be; • Street Art, Banksy, Picasso, Edgar Degas, Cezanne, John Burgerman, Roy Lichtenstien, Andy Warhol, Hundertwasser, David Hockney, Barbara Hepworth, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keefe, Lily Van DerStokker, MC Escher, Monet, Paula Rego, Peter Randall-Page, Salvador Dali, Van Gogh, Victor Vasarely, Bridget Riley, Takashi Murakami • All these Artists can be found easily by some research through Google images!!!!

2. Title Page • Artists name and dates • (when they were born and when they died) • Practical work from at least two images; print an image off the internet and complete a detail of the work next to it • Title page should be completed in at least 2/3 media e.g. Artist’s name in pen, detail from image in watercolour • Try and make the title page as interesting and exciting as possible using your own layout.

3. Biographies • Make the Biography page as interesting as possible • Use Text and Images with an imaginative layout

4. 8-10 Pages of drawing/painting or work in different media from images of your chosen Artist’s work Pages should include 1/2/3 images with practical work on a page with ‘annotation’ Annotation is a word that means - making notes and recording ideas and thoughts as you work e.g this sketch worked because…..I tried this pastel but didn’t like the effect……I might explore this idea later on….when I started this technique I found it difficult but it became easier….this image works well because…..I prefer this image because etc Titles, date and media (what the Artist used to make the image) for each Image or picture studied Answering some basic questions about the work is an effective way to introduce annotation into your sketchbook e.g. Why you chose the work? What formal elements are most used and what is the Artist trying to communicate? How is the image relevant to your assignment? (Formal elements – Colour, Shape, Pattern, Tone, Texture)

5. Copying or Studying an image by your chosen Artist does not have to be boring!! There is a huge range of media and materials you can use to make your image copy come to life in an intersting and expressive way! Here are just a few…….. Collage Pen Oil pastel Chalk Charcoal Acrylic Watercolour Wire Pencil Coloured paper And if you want to push the boat out…How about recreating an image using a mixture of materials – we call this mixed media! Try and imitate the style of your Artist using media to explore their ideas and techniques Sketches from observation A colour wash will set a soft back drop for your work

6. Some ideas for working from images -Print out an image and cut in half – draw/paint the other half Roy Lichtenstien Whole page copies of Artist images can be really impressive!! Takashi Murakami Enlarge a ‘Detail’ of an image and paint/draw
