  6. 1/5 dilution of serum TGL & Chol values

  7. 1/20 DILUTION • TRYGLYCERIDE 10,500 MG/DL TOTAL CHOLESTEROL=1400 mg.dl Sodium – 128 mEq/dl (pseudo hyponateremia)

  8. Case history of this sample • 43yr/M came to hospital with c/o tiredeness,no h/o chest pain or any event of CAD in his family. Known diabetic • No alcohol intake in previous 3 days • Repeated the sample next day with fasting • Results remain the same

  9. Why is lipemic sample important? • Lipemic sample is a cloudy sample – scatters light in colorimetry- assay error with all chemistries • Matrix effect- less water component in serum or plasma due to more solid(lipid)- less electrolyte estimation- pseudo hyponateremia in direct ISEs

  10. Uncontrolled diabetes – where you get high values of TGL. • Congenital dyslipidemias- Go for Lipoprotein EPP • Look for cardiac risk- start dietary management & drugs if necessary
