EXPLORE: Ask students questions about the weather in the book: What does the sky look like? Is there sun? Does it look windy? Does it look warm or cold? Why? What are some differences from the beginning (before the tornado) and towards the end of the book (after the tornado)?
EXPLAIN: Discuss with the class the different types of severe weather, the damage they can cause, and where the types of severe weather can happen. ELABORATE: Students will create their own story using one of the types of severe weather they have learned about. This activity can be done with partners or by yourself. A book template will be given to each group of 2 or each individual. Students will be guided through writing their story.
