  2. Walking on Water

  3. JESUS WALKS ON WATER MATTHEW 14:22-33

  4. MATTHEW 14:22-33 • 22 Immediately He made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side, while He sent the crowds away. 23 After He had sent the crowds away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He was there alone.

  5. MATTHEW 14:22-33 • 24 But the boat was already a long distance from the land, battered by the waves; for the wind was contrary. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea.

  6. MATTHEW 14:22-33 • 26 When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.”

  7. MATTHEW 14:22-33 • 28 Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” 29 And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!”

  8. MATTHEW 14:22-33 • 31 Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and *said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. 33 And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “You are certainly God’s Son!”

  9. How far would your faith take you? • Would you have walked on water? • Would you have even gotten out of the boat?

  10. When we focus on the Storm, we sink • The storms of life are very distracting and will cause us to sink. • Matt. 13:22 • We must continue to fix our eyes on Jesus. • Heb. 12:1-3

  11. When we sink we must Cry out for Christ • Many try to stay afloat by themselves • Some may have tried to grasp for the boat or call for the other disciples inside the boat. • Many just splash around frantically • When we sink, we must call/cry for Christ. • Psalm. 50:15; Joel 2:32/Acts 2:21

  12. Deliverance from storms should bring us to believe! • “you truly are the Son of God!” (vs. 33) • We ought to acknowledge when God delivers us from the “storms of life” and allow our faith to grow! • Exod. 15- the song of Moses.

  13. God allows us to go through “storms” • Jesus appears to send them out knowing what lies ahead. • This occasion gives them the opportunity to witness the deliverance of Christ and have their faith strengthened. • James 1:2-4

  14. James 1:2-4 • 2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
