2-3 Linking graphs to tables

Work with a partner to graph data in tables, identify variables, and recognize trends. Practice choosing scales, connecting points, and understanding dependent and independent variables. Explore how age impacts heart rate as an example.

  1. 2-3 Linking graphs to tables Miss battaglia – algebra 1 CP Objective: choose a scale and graph data in tables; identify independent and dependent variables.

  2. Work with a partner… patterns worksheet • Complete the table. • a) Graph the data. • b) Should the points be connected? • Why or why not? • c) Describe any trends you see between the number of levels • and the number of blocks.

  3. health • Tables organize data. Graphs show patterns or trends. Heart rate is the dependent variable because it depends on the age of the person. The age of the person is the independent variable. Changes in age affect heart rate.

  4. example • What is the target heart rate for a 70 year old? • Describe the relationship between age of a person and the target heart rate. • Which axis relates to the • independent variable? • the dependent variable?

  5. example • Graph the data in the table on a coordinate plane. Which variable is the dependent variable? Independent variable? Were all four quadrants needed? Why or why not? Describe what happens to the temperature as the altitude increases.

  6. classwork • Pg71-72 #2–9 , 12, 13, 15, 16, 18

  7. homework • Study for Quiz • P. 62 #11a,b • P. 67 #7-10 • P. 71 #2-5, 10bc
