Introduction Mark Tobin LPHE – EPFL SciFi Tracker Test-beam Meeting
RICH SciFi Tracker TORCH UT VELO Week 41: 06/10 – 12/10 Week 43: 20/10 – 26/10 Week 44: 27/10 – 02/11 Week 48: 24/11 – 30/11 LHCb also has beam time at PS SciFi Tracker Test-beam Meeting
H8 Beam Line Beam characteristics: • Attenuated primary or high-energy hadron (e±) beam • Described in EDMS Document No.1362712. • http://sba.web.cern.ch/sba/BeamsAndAreas/resultbeam.asp?beamline=H8 • Momentum range: • Primary beam: 400 (450) GeV/c. • Secondary beam: 10 – 400 GeV/c. • Secondary target: • Tertiary beam. • Pions, electrons, muons. • Maximum intensity: 2*108 particles / spill. • One spill every 14 – 48 seconds. Typically settings: • 180 GeV/c pions/protons (+ ~ 1% muons). • 106 – 107 particles / spill. • ~ 10 seconds / spill. SciFi Tracker Test-beam Meeting
Infrastructure In area: • Dry air, electricity, network. • Network outlets connect to general CERN network. • Beam instrumentation. • Scintillators and wire scanners. • PC in control room. • We have to provide everything else! In Barrack (HNA-443): • Wifi + network outlets. • Beam control PC. • We have to provide PCs, screens, etc. Safety: • Building (include control room) is supervised area. • Need dosimeter, safety shoes and helmet. SciFi Tracker Test-beam Meeting
Today’s discussion • Goal of the test beam. • What can only be done with beam? • Prioritise measurements. • Equipment needed: • Modules. • Read-out. • Telescope. • Mechanics. • Software. • Schedule. SciFi Tracker Test-beam Meeting
