Owl Pellets • Materials: • Owl pellets • Utensils (for removing bones from pellets) • What we did: • Explored owl pellets to determine what type of food owls eat. • Identified the bones removed from the owl pellets. • Science behind it: • Owls are carnivorous predators eating insects, mice, moles, rabbits, birds, and other small animals. Owls don’t digest parts of the animals like the bones and form an owl pellet, which is then regurgitated by the owl. Exploration of owl pellets is a way to analyze their diets.
