Computer Class for Primary School

Sky 2 Net LTD introduces "OPEN WORLD" proposal to connect African schools to the World Wide Web for educational access. The project aims to establish computer classrooms in primary schools, starting in Botswana and Nigeria, with plans to expand across Africa. The concept involves phased implementation, focusing on infrastructure, software programs, and Internet connectivity. Each classroom will feature NovaCentro and LanSchool v7.0 software, V-Sat internet connectivity, and solar-powered or generator-compatible infrastructure. Internet connectivity will be provided via V-Sat on Ku band for distance learning. Appendices include classroom plans, IRG-S2 Ku band details, satellite coverage map, and software program specifications. NovaCentro offers powerful computing solutions for student education with features for science and math technology, educational software, and enhanced user experience. The project aims to bridge the educational gap between Africa and the developed world through technology integration in classrooms.

  2. INTRODUCTION • CONCEPT • CLASSROOM • INTERNET CONNECTIVITY • APENDIX • I. Class room plans • II. IRG-S2 Ku Band • III. Coverage map • IV. NovaCentro and LanSchool v7.0 software program

  3. INTRODUCTION

  4. Sky 2 Net LTD initiates a proposal under the name “OPEN WORLD” that will bring schools in Africa to be exposed to the World Wide Web as a source of learning material and knowledge. The proposal is based on the model classroom that has been chosen by the Government of Botswana to create this year 10 computer classes and the Government of Nigeria to create 20 classes in 4 different States. The total project in Botswana will include 700 classes, that will start next year.

  5. Sky 2 Net is well established companies with wide presence in Africa for the last 8 years with customer base of few hundred enterprises, government agencies, mobile operators, Ngo’s, universities etc. The Company has a long experience in the education field, distance learning and implementation for education.

  6. We believe that education and exposure to the world (through the Internet) can bring progress and development to countries that were deprived for years from what the Western world is participating for years, by that to close the gap between the those entities. We believe that the time is ripe to introduce such systems to the education infrastructure in Africa.

  7. CONCEPT

  8. The concept is based of implementing a dedicated classroom in each primary school in Africa according to time table that will be decided by the education authorities. The primary school is the best place to start computer & Internet literacy. In case the decision makers will decide to start in middle schools or high schools, it is fine with us.

  9. We suggest to divide the project into phases in each country: First Phase - implementing the system in a pilot of 10 classes. Second Phase - analyzing, after a year, from the lessons that were learnt about the methodology and the way student had absorbed the system, that phase can overlap the last three months of the first one. Third Phase - implementing the systems to more schools all over each country with adaptation to the pilot lessons and according to budget constrain.

  10. CLASSROOM

  11. The Classroom contains the following components: • The infrastructure (power supply, furniture’s etc.). • NovaCentro and LanSchool v7.0 software program. • V-Sat and Internet connectivity. • INFRASTRUCTURE • The class was designed to be applicable to solar • energy panels or to a generator; in both there is • batteries storage. • The furniture and the set-up of the class will be • according the plans that are submitted hereby. The • structure of the class enables protection of the • equipment and ventilation of the class room.

  12. NovaCentro brings powerful student computing from Fourier. Extensive science and math technology and bundled educational software are packaged in clamshell folding casing with built-in keyboard and mouse pad.

  13. LanSchool v7.0 is a software program designed to help teachers improve the learning environment in computer-based classroom.

  14. With LanSchool installed on each computer in a classroom, a teacher has the ability to perform the following functions: Reduce Student Distractions. Demonstrate Skills.Keep Students on Task.Encourage Classroom Participation and Collaboration.Help Individual Students.

  15. INTERNET CONNECTIVITY

  16. Each class will be connected by V-sat (IRG S2) on Ku band that will enable to connect to the Internet backbone. The IP will be a platform for distance learning. The bandwidth for each class will be with contention rate of 1:8 that will reduce the cost of the recurrent fee.

  17. The project can be based on communication technologies other than V-Sat, such as optic fiber or wireless.

  18. APPENDIX

  19. APPENDIX I – CLASSROOM PLAN

  20. APPENDIX II – IRG-S2 KU BAND

  21. APPENDIX III – SATELLITE COVERAGE MAP W3A

  22. APPENDIX IV – NOVACENTRO AND LANSCHOOL v7.0 SOFTWARE PROGRAM Now lighter, faster and double the memory, NovaCentro brings even more powerful student computing from Fourier. Extensive science and math technology and bundled educational software are packaged in clamshell folding casing with built-in keyboard and mouse pad.

  23. Flexible & Easy Retaining shock proof design, 8 hour battery life and instant on, NovaCentro shares the latest Nova line specifications for ultimate computerized learning.

  24. New features include: • Faster processor • 2D graphic accelerator • Enhanced multimedia • Video playback capabilities • Twice the RAM and storage memory • SD card slot for broader file transfer • The new Clamshell NovaCentro model promises a more immediate and accessible user experience in the classroom, out in the field or at home

  25. Science Ready Never before has a single solution been so Science Ready, mobilizing computerized science laboratories. NovaCentro enables students to perform just like scientists by combining data logging with computing.

  33. LANSCHOOL v7.0 SOFTWARE PROGRAM LanSchool works by enabling a teacher to control all student computers within a computer-based classroom. It uses teacher “channels” to ensure that all the computers in that classroom see the same computer screen; much like a TV channel enables different TVs to see the same program. LanSchool has 16,000 teacher channels from which to choose, which means that you can have as many as 16,000 different classrooms using LanSchool at any given time.

  34. The most logical way to set up LanSchool is for each classroom or room to have its own teacher channel, as well as just one teacher computer. This setup enables all of the computers in the same classroom to interact with each other and one teacher to control the entire room.

  35. In contrast to Negroponte's OLPC project where educational content should be provided by the school themselves, NovaCentro and LanSchool v7.0 software program provide a complete learning environment.
